Obituary

Katherine L. Turner peacefully joined her Husband Stephen E. Turner, her mother and father; Marie and Wilbur Doebel, as well as her brothers; Arthur and Clifford on June 12, 2021. Katherine L. Turner (Doebel) was a loving, compassionate mother to her daughter, Barbara, & her husband, Allen Jones, and son, Robert, & his wife, Catherine.  A loving grandmother to her grandchildren; Amber & her husband, Michael Dye, Jasmine, and Forrest & his companion, Amanda, as well as a loving sister-in-law to Margaret Laurange and Aunt to her nephew, Mark, & his daughter, Aspen, & his companion, Kate, and Niece, Jennifer, & her partner, Noah, and their daughter, Elouise.  Katherine was loved by her family for she was the one who would always remember the birthdays, she made Holidays very special as well as family picnics & celebrations.  Among all members of the family, she is fondly remembered for her baked beans, deviled eggs, and her black cherry jello.   Katherine was born on July 17, 1935 in Clyde, Ohio. Her family owned and operated Doebel's Flowers. As a child she would work at her mother's side preparing corsages for Easter and Mother's Day.  Later she came into the business as a Floral Designer.  Her family had a love for music and would often gather around the piano for music and song.  Personally, she played the piano, organ, guitar, and Hawaiian steel guitar.  For a short time in her youth, she also performed with her friends in a local band. Katherine had a great love for Hawaii and would listen to the radio programs that were broadcast from the islands.  She visited Hawaii on many occasions.  Her last visit was with her husband for their 50th Wedding Anniversary, which they fulfilled and honored that day. They celebrated with a dinner at the Halekulani Hotel sitting poolside by the ocean. She met her husband through a double date that was organized by her brother, Clifford.  The rest was history.  She married the love of her life on June 28, 1959 with a small ceremony in Clyde, Ohio.  She left Ohio and the family floral business to be with her husband in New York.  They raised their family in Mt. Kisco, NY.  Their home was the center of many family gatherings creating generations of wonderful memories. Katherine returned to the floral business as her children grew working at a local floral shop.  There she was offered a manager position, but this was not to be her direction in life.  With her Husband, they moved the family to Poughkeepsie, NY where they purchased a business and home that were located on the same property. This allowed her be with her family and continue her passion for flowers all in one location.  Flower Barn started operations in January of 1977.  Under Katherine's caring and quiet guidance Flower Barn has been a place for family, having her children and eventually grandchildren join and assist.  Barbara joined her Mother in running the business creating an inseparable loving bond between the two and together they continued Katherine's dream.  The special relationship that Katherine formed with her customers also became such an important part of the business.  This created an extended family.  Through this, she helped to celebrate life's moments with flowers.  All of the employees, like Gina Davidson and her daughter, Rebecca, became part of this family and created so many special memories which will live on. In keeping with her wishes, cremation has taken place. Memorial calling hours will be from 1 to 3 PM, Saturday, June 19th at Sweet's Funeral Home, Inc., Rte. 9, Hyde Park. A celebration of her life will follow at 3PM with Rev. Arlene Dawber officiating. The Turner family respectfully requests memorial donations to the Hudson Valley Hospice Foundation, 80 Washington Street, Suite 204, Poughkeepsie, NY 12601 ( www.hvhospice.org ), or the Dutchess- Fairview Local 2623, 258 Violet Ave., Poughkeepsie, NY 12601.
