Obituary

Hyde Park - June I. Sharpe, 94, a lifelong resident of Hyde Park, passed peacefully on June 1, 2023, at Vassar Brothers Medical Center.

Born October 24, 1928, she was the only child of Edward W. Carlson and Marybelle (Wilber) Carlson.

Educated in Hyde Park schools, June was on her high school class basketball team, a junior-varsity cheerleader, a twirler and drum major. She was also an airplane spotter in Hyde Park during World War II. She graduated in 1947.

She married her high school sweetheart, Melvin Sharpe, on February 22, 1948. They were married for 58 years. During those years, they spent many of them vacationing in Vermont on Lake Champlain. Mel predeceased her in 2006.

Mrs. Sharpe worked for the E.V. Howard agency for 22 years, retiring in 1989, in what would be her "first" retirement. She went on to work at the former Champion Store in Hyde Park for nine years, retiring again, and finally working for AllStar Water for seven years, retiring for the last time at age 80.

She was proud that she was still able to drive well into her nineties. You could also see her touring around her yard on her John Deere, mowing her grass.

June was a lover of animals, and over the years, gave home to many. She loved playing bingo, sewing, crafting and reading.

Mrs. Sharpe belonged to the Reformed Dutch Church of Hyde Park for many years. She also belonged to the Hyde Park Library Quilting Club, the local AARP, and the Hyde Park Seniors Club, where she played mah-jongg with her friends on Monday mornings.

Survivors include two sons, Michael Sharpe, and his wife, Ellen, of Hyde Park, and M. Edward Sharpe and his wife, Sandra, of Cocoa, FL; five grandchildren, June Shoemaker of Star, Idaho, Kinsey Slevinsky of Watertown, CT, Elizabeth Sharpe of Wakefield, RI, Joanne Moss of Concord, NC, and Brian Sharpe of Hopewell Junction.

Great grandchildren include Eliza and Caroline Slevinsky, Zoey Sales, Jianna and Jayna Moss, and Autumn and Andre Sharpe.

She is also survived by her former daughter-in-law, Maryann, of Rhinebeck.

Funeral services were private.
