Obituary

Julie A. Piccoli was born on January 27, 1943 in Poughkeepsie, New York to Vincenzo and Margaret Piccoli. She died on August 10, 2026. She was 83 years old.

After graduating from Poughkeepsie High School in 1961, she worked in retail, lived in the south west, was married, divorced, worked at Rosenbaum's in Poughkeepsie, IBM in Fishkill and State Farm Insurance in Hyde Park. She lived independently for the majority of her life and spent most of her time with her younger brother's family and her friends.

Those who knew her would describe her as friendly, funny and feisty. She had a loving and generous heart. She expressed her love and generosity through her baking. She loved baking cakes for family, friends and co-workers to celebrate special occasions. For the holidays, family and friends would be treated to cheesecakes and cannoli, which were her specialties. She was a very talented baker and honed her skills in a baking class at the Culinary Institute of America and shared the bounty of her baked goods with her niece and nephew every Saturday after her class.

She was also a master-gardener who was extremely knowledgeable about plants. She cultivated her own beautiful flower gardens and shared gardening tips with fellow enthusiasts. She made pretty bouquets as gifts and shared seeds and plants with those she knew and loved. She also enjoyed going to formal gardens, taking trips to the New York Botanical Gardens and making a special voyage to Appledore Island to visit Celia Thaxter's garden with her niece and her nephew-in-law. Julie found beauty in and appreciated the natural world, always with an eye out for butterflies and hummingbirds.

Over the years, Julie was always up for new experiences and adventures. For example, she learned beekeeping from her nephew-in-law, she visited her dear friends in Florida and she went on a cruise to Mexico with friends.

Julie loved animals and had many pets from the time she was young. She cherished all of her dogs and cats over the years, including her niece's beloved Bassett Hound, Flash, who Julie took care of for one year.

Julie's closest relatives to pre-decease her were her brother, Richard, and her sister-in-law, Susan. She is survived by her niece, Sue, her niece's husband, Bob, and her nephew, John.

A visitation will be held at Sweet's Funeral Home in Hyde Park on Saturday, August 15 from 11:00am to noon. Flowers are certainly appreciated, but if you would like to make a donation in Julie's name, please donate to the Dutchess County SPCA, 636 Violet Ave., Hyde Park, NY 12538. (www.dcspca.org)
