Judith "Judie" S. Marsden, 80, of Staatsburg, died on Monday, November 1, 2021, at Mid- Hudson Regional Hospital in Poughkeepsie, with her family by her side.
Born Tuesday, June 17, 1941, in St. Marys, PA, she was the daughter of the late Erle Irwin Shobert II and Marjorie Sullivan Shobert.
Judie worked as a math teacher in Doylestown, PA for 3 years. After obtaining her Master's in Education from Penn State University, she began her career at IBM in Poughkeepsie, working for over 30 years as a manager for the System Development Division. She retired in the late 1990's.
On her birthday in 1966, she married the love of her life, Edward Marsden. Together they enjoyed over 55 years together.
Judie enjoyed traveling around the world singing with various choral groups, and at one point she traveled to 6 countries in 6 weeks. Continuing her passion for singing, she joined the Soprano II section of the Duchess County Camerata Chorale and was a member for more than 50 years. She also sang in the Choir of the Pleasant Plains Presbyterian church, where she was an active member and a Ruling Elder.
Judie was also an avid dog lover and enjoyed raising her greyhound therapy dogs, often taking them to nursing homes and schools to bring people comfort and joy. Running was an important part of Judie's life and she ran almost every day. When not wearing her running shoes, she could be seen wearing her Penn State blue crocs. Judie enjoyed art, good books and warm sunshine on her face. She could often be found with a pencil in her bun, a bag of lollipops to share while driving her sports car.
Judie is survived by her husband, Edward Marsden, of Staatsburg; sister, Peggy Hayes, and husband, William, of Kersey, PA; many nieces and nephews, grand nieces and nephews, and many close friends.
A memorial service will take place at Pleasant Plains Presbyterian Church on Friday November 5th at 1pm, with the Reverend Luanne Pannarotti presiding. Please note that in the interest of safety, masks will be required at the church.
