Judith E. (Judy)
Kowalski
Jul 30, 1947 — Mar 26, 2025
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Judith E. ("Judy") Kowalski, beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, who unexpectedly left us on March 26, 2025. Born on July 30, 1947, in Poughkeepsie, New York, to the late Chester and Ruth (Wentworth) Podeszedlik, Judy was known for her warmth and kindness. She devoted her life to her family, doting on her husband Peter ("Pete") Kowalski and raising her four children by instilling in them the strength of family, kindness, and unconditional love.
Judy graduated from Poughkeepsie High School with the Class of 1965. After graduation, she went to work for IBM in Poughkeepsie. On January 9, 1971, Judy married Pete, her life-long partner of 54 years.
As a stay-at-home mom, Judy dedicated her days to nurturing her four children. Her unwavering support, deep love, and wise guidance shaped the lives of her children. She cherished her family deeply, and her legacy will live on in the values she passed down to her children and grandchildren.
Judy was known for her gentle spirit, warmth, and her unwavering love for friends and family, for whom she always made time. Whether leading a Girl Scout troop, helping with science fair projects, or cheering from the sidelines, Judy was always there. Her home had a welcoming open door for both her friends and for all the friends of her children while they were growing up. As her children became adults, she treasured spending quality time with her six grandchildren, whom she proudly cared for and spoiled at every opportunity. Judy also had a special love for animals, making sure that each of her pets was treated like family. She also found great peace and joy in the simple things, like trips with Pete and her sister Patricia to the beach. Whether walking along the shore to look for shells or watching the waves, the beach was a place that filled her soul.
Her generosity and selflessness will be remembered by all who knew her. Judy leaves behind a family who is grateful for the years they shared and who will forever cherish the lessons she taught them through her example of love, compassion, and loyalty. She is survived by her husband Pete; her children Karin Peeling and her husband Brett, Peter Kowalski, Jr. and Ana Rodriguez, and Heather Amaral; her grandchildren, Katelyn, Stephanie, Benjamin, Nathaniel, Kylie, and Sophia; her sister Patricia Scott and her brother James Podeszedlik. Also mourning are brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law as well as many nieces and nephews. Judy was predeceased by her parents and son Steven Kowalski.
Relatives and friends may call from 10 am to 11:30am on Saturday, March 29, 2025, at Sweet's Funeral Home, Route 9, Hyde Park followed by a memorial service at 11:30 am. The family encourages donations be made to the Dutchess County SPCA in Judy's memory. She will be greatly missed and forever loved.
