Juana Martinez-Torres, 80, of Poughkeepsie, died on Thursday, February 1, 2024, at Vassar Brothers Hospital with her family by her side.

Born on August 20, 1943, in Guánica, Puerto Rico, she was the daughter of Magdalena Martinez.

Juana moved to the United States from Puerto Rico, living in Manhattan until moving to Dutchess County in 2004.

On November 27th, 1967, she married the love of her life Jose R. Torres, they enjoyed 54 years together before Jose passed on July 23rd, 2022.

Juana loved to play Dominos, and traveled around the world with her partner, competing and winning several tournaments. She loved to go camping and fishing with her family.

She also loved to cook, watch New York Yankees Games and most of all spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Juana is survived by her children; Juanita Lindquist and husband Jerry, Julie Muriel, Vivian Olmeda, Jose R. Torres, Tamara Velazquez-Torres, and Rafael Torres and wife Laura; 9 grandchildren, Kris Ocasio, Joe Muriel, Clifton Lynch, Jonathan Muriel, Jillian Muriel, Julie Matias, Andrew Torres, Michael Torres. Aiden Torres, 17 Great grandchildren, and 1 great great grandchild.

She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In keeping with her wishes cremation has taken place.

A memorial service will be on Saturday February 17th from 3 to 6pm. A service will take place at 5:30 during the calling hours.
