Obituary

Joseph Anthony Quinones Sr., 78, passed away peacefully in his home on December 24, 2022, surrounded by his family.

Born June 20, 1944, in Utuado, Puerto Rico, Joseph lost both of his parents as a toddler, entrusting to the care of his older sister Anna, who raised him as a son and moved the family to New York City.

A Vietnam Veteran, Joe served with distinction from 1967-1969 and was honorably discharged in 1973. He earned numerous medals while in the service, including The National Defense Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Combat Infantryman's Badge, Army Commendation Medal and was a Marksman.

In 1983, Joseph moved to Poughkeepsie with his wife, Rosaria, where he began work at HG Page & Sons as a carpenter and door maker. Joseph remained at the company through 2006, when he changed employment, working for the VA Hospital in Castle Point. He worked for the institution through 2014, when he retired.

A handyman, Joseph loved working with his hands and prided himself on his craftsmanship. He would build beautiful furniture, fixtures, toys and more. He was a simple man who enjoyed the little things in life, eating Puerto Rican food, Salsa dancing and singing along to Frank Sinatra. He loved movies, often reciting lines, or spouting off the credits of each cast member. Likewise, he was an avid baseball fan and Yankee fanatic(unless they were doing poorly, then the Mets).

Most of all he was a family man who adored his family and wanted nothing more than to spend time with them. Joseph was predeceased by his parents, Arturo Quinones and Maria Belen Lugo, his brothers, Earnest, Hector and Arturo, and his sister, Anna.

Joseph is survived by his soulmate of 42 years, wife Rosaria; his son, Denis, and wife, Edsa Robles, granddaughter, Noheli; son, Joseph Jr., and partner, Stacey Phillips, and daughters, Jessica and (wife) Courtney.

Furthermore, he is survived by his brother, Jesus, and sister Anna's children, who were like siblings to him, Anna, Martha, Frank and Bobby, along with their children and grandchildren.

A closeted dog lover, he is also survived by pups, Luke and Leia, and his Granddogs, Charlie, Harley and Benny.

Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM, Friday, December 30th at Sweet's Funeral Home, Rte. 9, Hyde Park. A prayer service will take place during the evening visitation.

Cremation and interment of Joseph's ashes in a National Cemetery will take place at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Bob Woodruff Family Foundation, 1350 Broadway, Suite 905, NY, NY 10018. (www.bobwoodrufffoundation.org)
