John Ziemis, 79, of Monticello, NY passed after fighting a very aggressive brain cancer that was diagnosed in December of 2019. Born July 29th, 1941, in Vayia, Thibs in Greece, he was the son of Nicholas Ziemis and Eleni Kontou. He is survived by his brother Dino Ziemis and son Nicholas Ziemis. John is predeceased by his beloved sister Athina Ziemis and beloved wife Vaso Pappa. He now rests in heaven alongside them. John lived a very adventurous life and spent most of his youth traveling the world by the sea until he finally settled in the U.S. He was a very successful baker, and he was also a proud owner of a couple of restaurants throughout his life.  One of the most admirable traits John had was his dedication to his family. He was a very hard-working person who would never stay still, only to provide for his family.   After losing his wife in 2011, it was a very hard time for him and his son, but John found the strength to provide for his son and did everything he could to see him be successful.  He will be remembered by his strong will and his generosity.  Funeral service will begin at 10 am on Wednesday, June 2nd, at Kimisis Greek Orthodox Church, 140 S Grand Avenue, Poughkeepsie, NY 12603.  The burial will follow at Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Sweet's Funeral Home, Rte. 9, Hyde Park.  Condolences may be made to the family at www.sweetsfuneralhome.com .
