Obituary

John William Lee, 75, a longtime Town of Poughkeepsie resident, died on August 16, 2022, at Mid-Hudson Regional Hospital. Born December 4, 1946, in Rochester, he was the son of John R. and Marion Dailey Lee. He was a 1966 graduate of Poughkeepsie High School. A proud United States Air Force veteran, John spent time in Thailand and Korea during the Vietnam War. Mr. Lee worked for IBM in Poughkeepsie for twenty-five years. After retiring from IBM, he worked in auto sales in Hyde Park and Rhinebeck. Most recently, he was a School Bus Monitor for the Arlington School District, a job he really enjoyed. John took pride in being active with the Boy Scouts of America for over forty years, most of which was as Scoutmaster for Troop #17 in the Fairview area of the Town of Poughkeepsie. On September 15, 1968, at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, Poughkeepsie, he married the former Maria E. Greco. Mrs. Lee survives at home. John enjoyed spending time with his family. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Salvatore Lee and wife, Amanda, of Poughkeepsie, and Brian Lee and wife, Rebecca, of Pleasant Valley; four grandchildren, Benjamin, Luciana, Cassidy, and Hunter Lee; sister, Jacqueline Lee Jordan, of Reno, Nevada; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, and a brother, Norman Lee. In keeping with his wishes, cremation has taken place. Memorial calling hours will be from 4 to 7 PM, Saturday, Sept. 3rd, at Sweet's Funeral Home, Rte. 9, Hyde Park. A funeral service will take place at 6 PM during the visitation with Rev. Arlene Dawber officiating. Air force honors will follow. John was an ardent supporter of veterans' organizations, police charities, or anything that championed the outdoors and wildlife. The Lee family respectfully requests memorial donations to a veterans' charity of your choice.
