Hyde Park, NY John J. Prendergast, Jr., 70, of Hyde Park, NY, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 6, 2022, surrounded by his family, after battling a long illness. Born on March 20, 1952, in Poughkeepsie, NY, he was the only son of John J. and Olive Leto Prendergast. On November 12, 1976, he married the love of his life, Debra Smedes, in Poughkeepsie, NY. Known by many and beloved by all, John was the owner of a local business for many years before his retirement. John was a true musician and performer and loved playing the guitar. His passion for making music brought great joy to many throughout the years and was a source of great pride. Survivors include his devoted wife of 45 years, Debra Prendergast of Hyde Park, NY, as well as his beloved daughters Rachel Pink and partner Brian Stopczynski of Kingston, NY; daughter and son-in-law, Victoria (Christopher) Kohler, Poughkeepsie, NY; daughter and son-in-law, Laura (Corey) McGrath, Millbrook, NY. He was the proud and loving Nepa/ Grandpa to seven grandchildren, Taylor & Cameron Pink, Poughkeepsie, NY; Meghan, Ian & Lindsay Kohler, Poughkeepsie, NY; Chase & Mallory McGrath, Millbrook, NY. He was preceded in death by his parents, with whom he is now reunited. Relatives and friends will be received from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM, on Monday, April 11, 2022, at Sweet's Funeral Home, Rte. 9, Hyde Park. A Funeral service will begin at 6:30 PM on that date with the Rev. Arlene Dawber, officiating. Burial will be private and at the convenience of his family.
