Obituary

Stanfordville, NY – John G. Danko, Jr., 91, a longtime resident of Stanfordville, NY, died peacefully at home on Thursday, February 9th, 2023, after a brief illness.

John was born on August 1, 1931, in Poughkeepsie, NY, to the late John G. Danko Sr., and Amelia M. Danko. He was a graduate of Poughkeepsie High School, served in the United States Air Force from 1948 to 1952, and was a proud veteran of the Korean War. John was employed by IBM in November 1952, where he remained until his retirement in February 1987.

On June 3, 1962, John married Electra J. Verven, who predeceased him in 1978. Together they had two children, John and Patricia.

On June 28, 1980, he married Anna M. Inserillo, who was also widowed and had three children of her own: Joanne, Peter, and Robert.

In addition to his wife Anna, John is survived by his children: John Danko and wife Elizabeth of Cortlandt Manor, NY; Patricia Uhl and husband Robert of Sandy Hook, CT; Joanne Inserillo of Poughkeepsie, NY; Peter Inserillo and wife Christine of Hopewell Junction, NY; and Robert Inserillo and wife Katherine of Stanfordville, NY.

As a result of this blended family, John was blessed with 12 grandchildren: Daniel, Jacqueline, Analiese, Melissa, Peter, Cassandra, Rachel, Anthony, Jennifer, David, James, and Katrina; as well as five great-grandchildren: Everett, Charlotte, Brayden, Declan, and Kaius.

John is also survived by a sister, Jane Widas, and husband Robert of Hyde Park, NY, a brother, Dennis Danko, and wife Lynn of Estero, FL, as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Irene Grbich.

In retirement, John served his community by volunteering for the American Cancer Society and delivering Meals on Wheels. He was also a long-term, active member of the Stanford Lions Club, The Moose Lodge in Hyde Park, and The Elks Lodge in Poughkeepsie.

He was a regular participant in the annual Stanford Memorial Day and Labor Day parades, and Stanford Community Days. In September 2022, both John and Anna were selected as "Citizens of the Year" by the people of Stanfordville.

In his spare time, John enjoyed fishing and spending time in his garden. On weekends, he and Anna could be found dancing the night away at one of the clubs to which they belonged.

John enjoyed a long, healthy, happy life with his love Anna. They found joy together spending time at their home in Stanfordville with their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
