Catskill, NY – Joan A. O'Neill (Kusky), 89, a resident of Catskill and formerly of Hyde Park, NY passed away peacefully at home on Monday, July 4, 2022, after a long illness. Mrs. O'Neill retired from Vassar College as a telephone operator. Prior to Vassar, she worked as a telephone operator at Byrnes Messaging Service. For her family, Joan created a place where they knew they would always feel loved. She enjoyed spending time with her beloved family, sewing, gardening, crafting, dog walking and camping. She loved outdoor theaters and her companion dogs. Born in Uniondale, Long Island, NY on April 28, 1933, she was the daughter of the late Peter Kusky and Viola (Schinkel) Kusky. She attended Hempstead High School. On April 24, 1953, in St. Martha's Roman Catholic Church, Uniondale, Long Island, she married Joseph F. O'Neill. She was predeceased by her husband, Joseph, in 2010 and her daughter, Susan, in 2014. She is survived by four children, Theresa O'Neill-Becker, and husband John, of Oak Hill, NY, Patricia Damis of Canaan, CT, Kevin O'Neill of Catskill, NY, and Kathleen O'Neill and husband David Becker of Catskill, NY; seven grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, and her beloved dog, Tippy. In keeping with Joan's wishes, cremation has taken place. Memorial services will be private.
