Jean Traver, 84 long-time resident of Hyde Park, died on Friday, December 23, 2022. Born September 15, 1938, in Paonia, Colorado, she was the daughter of Laura Schmidt.
Jean was a graduate of Colorado State University. She worked for the Department of Social Services, Poughkeepsie for many years until her retirement. After retirement she became a regular at the local gym, where she loved to work out and socialize with all her friends. People would seek her out for her seasoned advice and guidance, she never met a stranger. Jean volunteered with the Hyde Park chapter of Meals on Wheels for many years where she was paired with Mr. Alan Scott who she made her weekly deliveries with.
Jean is survived by her husband and soul mate Vernon Traver. Daughters Laurie Riley and husband Rocky, of Virginia Beach and Kelly Traver of Hyde Park. Step father Robert Kempf of Phoenix, AZ , cousin Sandra Hall of Salt Lake City, UT, and loving niece Kathy Tabor, Berthoud, CO.
Grandchildren include Connor and Jessie Riley of Virginia Beach. Garret Pendleton of Virginia Beach and Michael Walden of Hyde Park.
She was an avid reader who always had a book in her hand with a glass of wine in the afternoon, always available for conversation. Her, Vernon and life long friends Robert and Sara Jane Inglis traveled Europe visiting Germany, Italy, Switzerland and Greece. Trips were made to Hawaii, Alaska, California, Nevada, Arizona, Colorado, Virginia, Florida, Maine, Canada and Spain along her journey.
Thank you to the dedicated staff of the Thompson House, Rhinebeck who helped Jean achieve her wish of coming home. Appreciation and thanks to the Hyde Park Police and Paramedics who went above and beyond when they were called upon.
Thank you to all the friends and family who called and visited her while she could enjoy your many conversations, Cindy and Laura she loved you all.
You left us too soon, but there never would have been a good time for you to go. You will live forever in our hearts with a lifetime of memories to comfort us. The world will have a little less laughter, compassion and kindness in it with you gone. You earned your wings…… now fly…. Till we can all be together again.
In keeping with her wishes cremation has already taken place and a small gathering of friends and family will take place at a later date.
