Jean T. Hanlon, 91, of Hyde Park, NY, and a lifelong Dutchess County resident, passed away on Tuesday, May 23, 2023.

Born in Poughkeepsie to Charles Tompkins and Dorothy Brower Tompkins, Jean was raised by her guardian, Mary Osterhoudt.

She was a 1950 graduate of Poughkeepsie High School and worked for New York Telephone Company as a switchboard operator, and later trained employees on the then-new dial-up system.

She married Frank H. Hanlon on November 23, 1952, a steadfast marriage that lasted 65 years until his passing in 2018.

After dedicating her life to her family as a stay-at-home mother, and providing in-home childcare, Jean returned to work in the housekeeping departments of Staatsburg Manor and Hudson River Psychiatric Center, retiring from HRPC in 1996.

Jean loved drawing and crafting - specializing in wreaths and wall decor - and participated in many craft shows with daughter Karen.

She enjoyed books and crime TV shows, and daily talks and frequent visits with daughter Linda. She was quiet and humble, and always helpful to others. She will be forever missed by her daughters and her beloved cat, Tommy.
