Jane Sullivan Coutts, 63, a local resident for over forty years, died on March 5, 2022, at Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie with her family by her side.
Born May 7, 1958, in Summit, NJ, she was the daughter of James M. and Mary E. Zuckerman Sullivan.
A 1980 graduate of Penn State with a bachelor's degree in Health and Physical Education, Jane was a Varsity Letter Holder in Women's Lacrosse and a member of the Penn State Sailing Club. She was a proud member of the Penn State Varsity 'S' Club.
A strong Christian faith was important to Jane, and she was an active member of the United Methodist Church of Hyde Park and of the Mid-Hudson Tres Dias and Vida Nueva movements.
Jane began her career as a Phys Ed Teacher in the Spackenkill School District, where she also coached the field hockey team. She later worked for a year or two at Hyde Park Elementary. While teaching ended with the start of her family, she did serve both as an Assistant Coach and Coach of the Vassar Women's Lacrosse Team. Once her family was older, she returned to coaching, spending eight years as the Field Hockey coach at F. D. Roosevelt High School in Hyde Park. She retired early due to her cancer diagnosis.
On August 16, 1980, in St. Veronica's Church, Greentown, PA, she married David H. Coutts. Her husband survives at home.
In addition to her husband, survivors include her two daughters, Pamela G. Gihring and husband, Brandon, of Huntersville, NC, and Patricia L. Coutts of Royal Oak, MI; son, Peter J. Coutts, of Altoona, PA; and two grandchildren, Ace and Abbie Gihring.
She is also survived by three siblings, John Sullivan and wife, Jane, of Wycoff, NJ, Patti Haigh and husband, Bob, of Ocean City, NJ, and Paul Sullivan and wife, Marie, of Burke, VA; and nine nieces and nephews.
In keeping with her wishes, cremation has taken place.
