Helen C. Loveland, 83, of Clinton NY passed away on March 6, 2022 following a long illness. Born September 22, 1938 to Joseph and Idella DeShayes of Camden NJ, her childhood escapades often involved her older brother Joe and younger sister Dorothy (Dot).
She met and married Thomas Loveland Jr, also of Camden NJ in 1958 and began an extraordinary life together, raising 5 children; Tom, Tim, Dan, Dennis, and Diana (Merkel).
Helen and Tom's adventures together took them to live in several places in the US as well as a few years spent in Yokohama Japan, but the house in Clinton was the place they called home. Despite growing up a city kid, Helen loved the country life and she could often be found tending to her vegetable gardens, flowers and even helping raise chickens on a neighbor's farm.
The years spent in Yokohama provided opportunity to travel to exotic destinations in Asia, Africa, Europe and Australia. The influence of these experiences was evident in the art and décor of her home. Wherever she went, she made an abundance of dear friends.
Whether you knew Helen as a wife, mom, aunt, grandmom, great-grandmom, or friend, you always knew she cared deeply about you. She crocheted blankets, some in school colors, for her kids, grandkids, nieces and nephews, and her handmade Raggedy Ann and Andy dolls are still entertaining new generations 30 years later.
Helen is survived by her sister Dorothy, her five children and their spouses, and a number of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, all of whom know their world lost a bit of joy with Helen's passing.
Calling hours will be Thursday, March 10th from 10 am to 12 pm at Sweet's Funeral Home, Inc., Rte. 9, Hyde Park.
A funeral service will take place at 11:45 at the funeral home, and burial will follow in the family plot at Pleasant Plains Cemetery.
