Helen H.
Harden
Jan 18, 1926 — Nov 17, 2024
Helen H. Harden, 98, of Hyde Park, New York passed away on Sunday, November 17, 2024, at Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie, New York.
Born, January 18, 1926, in the Bronx, she was the daughter of the late William Harden and Helen Boehm Harden. Along with her parents she was predeceased by her brother, Kenneth Harden and her sisters, Marie Del Savio and Evelyn Dulgnan.
After obtaining her associates degree from Manhattan College, she went on to work at the Empire State Building. She received a letter from Governor Rockefeller in 1962 commending her for her exemplary service there. She got a job at the courthouse when the family moved to Clinton Corners. Over the years she earned promotions to become a Deputy Clerk for the Dutchess County Clerk for many years before her retirement.
In her free time, she was a volunteer driver for many years for the Northern Dutchess Caregivers Coalition in Rhinebec. She started the Birthday Club at Crum Elbow apartments, organized the monthly celebration and ensured everyone was contacted with updates.
Her title was Aunt Helen, but she was so much more to all of her nieces and nephews. She was always there to comfort, protect and support us through many of life's trials and tribulations.
One of the things Helen enjoyed was travelling to Florida with sisters Marie and Evie and her mother. Going to Florida for 2 to 3 months during the winter became something that they looked forward to.
She is survived by many nieces and nephews. Helen loved people and loved to encourage them. She was affectionately known as "Aunt Helen" or "Auntie" to more than just her nieces and nephews.
She was quite the hostess weather it was preparing her famous chicken "with the round little potatoes and carrots", and chilled applesauce on the side, or having tea or coffee with friends or family when they came to visit.
Holidays were magical, although she made us feel extra special at all times.
Aunt Helen remembered us with cards. Birthday Cards, Happy Valentine's Day, Easter, Halloween, Thanksgiving and of course Christmas Cards and Happy Anniversary cards.
She was committed to helping us succeed and was our biggest cheerleader. She enjoyed telling us "You can do it!".
Helen's favorite charities were Hyde Park Meals on Wheels, 1 Church St. Hyde Park, NY 12538, Sloan Kettering Hospital, Tunnels to Towers, St. Judes or the Disabled American Veterans.
Arrangements are under the direction of Sweet's Funeral Home, Inc., Rte. 9, Hyde Park.
