Obituary

Gustav William Talleur, 86, was born in Poughkeepsie on February 3, 1936, as the 4th Gustav Talleur to the late Gustav H. and Lucile Birdsall Talleur.

Gus graduated from Albany High School and Alfred State College, where he was president of State College Choir and a member of the Alumni Choir for 60 years.

On May 31, 1958, he married his High School sweetheart, the former Janet Brown. Gus served the country he loved in the U.S. Army at Governor's Island. Gus returned to Hyde Park to raise three sons with Janet.

He worked at Van's Auto and Air Express, Bartles Tree Service, and the New York Telephone Company.

Mr. Talleur was a 60-year member of the United Methodist Church in Hyde Park, where he endlessly shared with others his passion and joy of music, singing and volunteering.

Gus also served as Hyde Park Republican chair and was active in Boy Scout Troop #37 as proud father of 3 Eagle Scout sons and 2 Eagle Scout grandsons.

Gus was a devoted brother, husband, father, and most of all relished in his greatest role in life as Grandpa. He enjoyed his retirement years spending his gift of time with family camping and traveling – especially with his beloved wife and grandchildren.

Gus is survived by his wife of over 60 years, Janet B. Talleur; his sons, Stephen P. (Terry) of Dover Plains, Gustav J. (Theresa) of Somers, and James M. (Mary) of Highland; grandchildren, Conor, Gustav D., Christopher Maglin (Tiffany), Andrew Maher (Meghan), Danielle Phan (Van); and 4 great grandchildren.

He also leaves behind his brother, Charles (Karen); sister, Judith Meara (Richard); and many loving nieces, nephews and life-long friends.

In keeping with his wishes, cremation has taken place. Memorial calling hours will be from 3 to 7 Pm, Sunday, December 18th at Sweet's Funeral Home, Rte. 9, Hyde Park.

Funeral services will take place at 10:30 AM, Monday, December 19th at the United Methodist Church of Hyde Park, Corner of Church Street & Rte. 9, Hyde Park. Rev. Kregg Gabor will officiate.

Burial of his ashes in the family plot at Friends Upton Lake Cemetery will take place at a later date.
