Pleasant Valley – Gerald "Jerry" Knapp, 80, a lifelong area resident, passed away peacefully on September 29, 2025, at Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie.

Born on June 18, 1945, in Poughkeepsie, Jerry was the son of Florence Knapp. He attended Arlington Schools and went on to dedicate fifty-seven years of service as a Union Produce Clerk for ShopRite grocery stores throughout Dutchess County.

Jerry was a proud member of the Poughkeepsie Elks Lodge and served as a Shop Steward for the United Food and Commercial Workers International Union (UFCW) Local 1500.

Jerry found joy in the simple pleasures—spending time with family and friends, traveling (especially to his favorite destination, Maine), and savoring a good beer.

On February 14, 1987, in Pleasant Valley, he married Carol A. Bell, who survives at home. In addition to his wife, Jerry is survived by his daughter, Kimberly Ferese, and her husband, Greg, of Rhinebeck; nephew, Fred Knapp; niece, Joy Ann Huggard-Ortega; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.

In addition to his mother, he was predeceased by his son-in-law, John VanSteenburgh; and siblings Joyce, Barbara, Doris, Fred "Bud," Elmer, and Leonard.

Jerry's family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to those who supported his care: Dutchess Ambulette, the 4th Floor Staff at Vassar Brothers Medical Center, HealthQuest Home Services, Hudson Valley Hospice, and Fresenius Kidney Care. Special appreciation goes to Lara Flanagan, Nikki Ferese, Nia LaBonte, Joey Reale, and Fred Knapp for their many meals and unwavering support.

In accordance with Jerry's wishes, there will be no services. The Knapp family kindly asks that donations be made in Jerry's name to your favorite charity.

Arrangements are under the direction of Sweet's Funeral Home, Inc., Route 9, Hyde Park.
