Obituary

Hyde Park – Gerald H. "Jerry" Duncan, 83, a lifelong area resident, passed away July 31, 2023, after a long and courageous battle with pulmonary fibrosis.

Born in Poughkeepsie on April 30, 1940, Gerald was the son of the late Harold and Grace Milan Collier Duncan.

Gerald is survived by his wife of 63 years, Pauline Schickler Duncan. They were married May 28, 1960, at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church in Poughkeepsie.

He also leaves behind an extended family of nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, cousins, and godchildren.

Gerald was predeceased by his sisters, Helen Collier and Grace Murphy, and brothers, Edward and Joseph Collier, and Francis, Charles, and Frederick Duncan.

He was also predeceased by his best friends, Michael "Mickey" Biszick and Maynard "Butch" Darrow.

Gerald attended Poughkeepsie Schools. Shortly after high school, he attended Ironworkers Local 417 Apprentice School in Newburgh, received his apprenticeship, then graduated to Journeyman.

Gerald was an avid golfer, playing in many tournaments. He made many golf friends, with some being very special. He had been a member of the Red Hook Golf Club for many years.

In 2003, the Hyde Park Visual Environment Committee presented Gerald with the "Beautification Award" in the category of stone walls. He built a huge stone wall in 1975 around the front of his home. It is as beautiful today as it was when it was first built!

Jerry always had an incredible sense of humor, and a kind and caring heart.

When Pauline and Jerry met, it was love at first sight! He was the love of her life, and the best of everything!

Now, God has him in his arms, and Pauline has him in her heart, forever!

In keeping with his wishes, cremation has taken place.
