George Edward Stafford, Jr., 86, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 30, 2026, at The Pines at Poughkeepsie.

Born on November 16, 1939, in Schenectady, he was the son of the late George Stafford, Sr. and Ida Croote Stafford.

George proudly served his country in the United States Air Force from 1958 until 1962, attaining the rank of Airman First Class. Following his military service, he built a long and successful career as a service technician with the National Cash Register Company (NCR), where he spent 38 years repairing cash registers and computer systems before retiring in the year 2000.

A gifted mechanic and craftsman, George had an exceptional ability to restore and repair old cash registers. He especially enjoyed restoring antique cash registers - often reselling them at antique stores and flea markets.

After retirement he also enjoyed traveling, reading, and going to the theater.

George is survived by his children, Jill Stafford and husband Craig Hoek, Kelly Grinter, and Jeff Stafford; his grandson, Noah Pauly-Grinter; and his sisters, Marilyn Moore, Beverly Fetter, and Doris Rickard (Gil). He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Services will be private and his remains will be interred at Saratoga National Cemetery.
