Florence D.
Baker
Dec 2, 1928 — Mar 14, 2024
Florence D. Baker, lovingly called Flo by family and friends, passed away peacefully on March 14,2024. Born in Poughkeepsie on December 2, 1928 to Charles and Johanna Evans, Flo was predeceased by her husband Robert and grandson Alexander Baker. In addition, she was predeceased by her brothers Victor and Charles and her sister Frances Relyea.
Flo is survived by her children Robert Baker and wife Kirsten; Linda Leonardo and husband James; Jeffrey Baker and wife Cathy; James Baker and wife Tara; her grandchildren Chris Leonardo and wife Heather; Caryn Engel and husband Mike; Benjamin Baker and wife Danielle; Hannah, Aileen and James Baker; her great grandchildren Claire, Leah and Zoey Engel; Joe and Abram Leonardo; and Matthew, Jack and James Baker.
In addition, she is survived by her sister-in-law, Gail DeCarlo, and several nieces nephews and cousins.
Flo was a longtime parishioner at St. Peter's Church in Poughkeepsie, NY. She spent many years working at Queen City News in Poughkeepsie where she cherished her friends and colleagues.
Flo's first love was her family. She kept it intact by being the hub of communication and host for family gatherings. Everyone called her to get the details on family current events and happenings. All came to her home for the great food and socializing at the major holidays. Turkey dinner for Christmas and Thanksgiving and ham and pierogis for Easter. She joyfully worked tirelessly to cook, clean and provide her family spectacular loving holidays with fond memories.
Flo's greatest joy was spending time with her family, be it the holiday get togethers, birthday celebrations or summer vacations in Ocean City, New Jersey. She always looked forward to the week of fun in the sun at the beach in Ocean City with all that could attend. The vacation always started with a night at the casino in Atlantic City with her hubby. They both enjoyed the excitement and glitter that the casino offered. However, it was time spent together with everyone at the ocean house, feet in the water, listening to the waves crash and especially, the walk to get ice cream every night, that she loved the most.
Flo touched many lives besides her immediate family during her lifetime. For all those who were lucky enough to know her she will be remembered as a caring, loving individual of faith. She practiced what she deeply believed; treat others as you would like to be treated. Always staying positive and strong in good times and tough times was her undeniable strength. She was a beacon of goodness that could not be missed when meeting her.
May you be remembered as all that is good in this world. You were the best wife, mother and friend to all that you touched. You were a gift that will keep on giving long after you are gone.
Our family would like to thank all the staff at The Delmar Center for making Flo's stay there her home away from home. A special thank you to Rose and Christine for the loving care given to Flo.
The family will be scheduling a memorial mass and celebration of Flo's life.
