Eleanor
Tiedemann
Sep 7, 1941 — Dec 1, 2022
Eleanor B. Tiedemann, 81, of Salt Point, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, December 1, 2022, after a brief battle with cancer, with her loving family by her side.
Born September 7, 1941 in the Bronx, she was the daughter of the late Karsten and Elizabeth Hahnen Tiedemann.
Eleanor was a lifelong resident of Salt Point, NY. She graduated from Franklin D. Roosevelt H.S. (class of 1959). While in high school, she began working at Kennedy Pump & Supply. After graduating, Eleanor continued working for the company (now known as Win Wholesale Supply, formerly Dutchess Wholesalers on a full-time basis. While the company name changed several times over the years, she remained a constant. She never retired, working right up to the time she became ill. After over six decades of working for the same company, she was a veritable encyclopedia of the plumbing trade, and could actually assemble a pump in her head. Eleanor worked with several other employees for decades and they became like family to her. Jim, one employee she worked with since 1986, called her the "Well Water Goddess". Eleanor had a strong work ethic and loved what she did and the people she worked with. Even at the age of 81, she had no interest in retiring.
Eleanor's life revolved around her family, and her extended work family. In addition, she was an active member of St. Timothy Lutheran Church of Hyde Park, the Rhinebeck Choral Club, and a yearly volunteer in the Dutchess County Horticultural Building for the Dutchess County Fair, where she entered many of her prize winning flowers and arrangements.
She loved to bake and was known for her fabulous cookies, holiday stollen, and apple pies. She was always baking treats to take to work, or for Bake Sales at church, or for Rhinebeck Choral Club concerts. Her floral and decorating talents for holidays were much appreciated by her work family, church family, and Choral Club family.
She is survived by her brother, Arthur Tiedemann and wife Eileen; niece, Karen Tiedemann-Morris and husband Richard Morris, nephew, Craig Tiedemann and wife Kelly Tiedemann; grandnieces, Nicole Morris, Danielle Morris, Amanda Tiedemann, and Lyndsey Tiedemann. She is also survived by her "special" adopted nieces, the Hoger girls, for whom she baby sat when they were all young and who then remained a part of her extended family.
Eleanor lived a quiet but full life, working in her garden, baking, and traveling with her grandnieces and going on adventures with them. In 2011, she fulfilled a lifelong dream by traveling to Alaska.
A memorial service and burial of her cremains will take place at a later date.
Eleanor's family respectfully requests memorial donations to Dutchess County SPCA 636 Violet Ave. Hyde Park, NY 12538, or Hospice Foundation, Inc. 80 Washington, Suite 204 Poughkeepsie, NY 12601.
Arrangements are under the direction of Sweet's Funeral Home, Inc., Rte. 9, Hyde Park.
