Obituary

Pleasant Valley - Edward D. Baker, formerly of Hopewell Junction and Inwood, died suddenly at Vassar Brothers Hospital in Poughkeepsie, NY on Wednesday, May 4, 2022 at the age of 70. Son of the late Edward R. and Ann Brophy Baker, he was born on March 3, 1952, and was affectionately known as "Eddie". Left to cherish his memory are two sons, Christopher J. Baker and his wife Brittany of Buffalo, NY; and Jonathan D. Baker of Pleasant Valley. He is also survived by his former wife, Jeanette Tully-Baker of Poughkeepsie, a sister, Christine Berger of Michigan, many nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews. In addition to his parents, Ed was predeceased by his three brothers: Patrick R. Baker, Daniel J. Baker and Paul C. Baker. Ed had a knack for repairing anything mechanical. After working as an auto mechanic, he was hired by IBM Manhattan in 1974 as a Customer Service Representative (CSR). He worked with both internal and external customers (including some executives), fixing everything from printers to mainframes to laptops. He eventually transferred to IBM Poughkeepsie and IBM East Fishkill. After 42 years with IBM, he retired in 2016. He was proud to be an IBMer. Ed loved to make people laugh with his playful antics. The greatest joys in his life were his two sons with whom he shared a special bond. Ed was a Boy Scout Troop Leader for both Troop 65, Fishkill and Troop 26, Wappingers Falls. He also enjoyed time with his boys as a coach with the Town of East Fishkill Soccer League. Ed loved the ocean, fishing, and his weekly volleyball games. Ed was well-loved, lived a full, blessed life and will be truly missed. Family and friends may call from 1:00pm to 4:00pm on Saturday, May 14, 2022 at Sweet's Funeral Home, Route 9, Hyde Park.
