Obituary

Doris Campanaro, a cherished wife, beloved friend, and esteemed hairdresser, passed away peacefully on November 13, 2024, in Poughkeepsie, New York, after a valiant battle with cancer. Born on January 21, 1949, in Berlin, Germany, Doris's journey of life took her to the vibrant neighborhoods of the Bronx, where she completed her high school education and later flourished in her profession.

Doris, affectionately known by those close to her simply as Doris, was the heart of her family, the cornerstone of friendships, and a beacon of courage and compassion. Her husband Paul, with whom she shared an incredible 53 years of loving marriage, stood by her as a testament to their enduring bond and mutual devotion.

Professional in every sense, Doris dedicated 20 fruitful years to Steven Amendola's Salon, where she not only styled hair but also styled lives, touching the hearts of many with her thoughtful and friendly demeanor. Her passion for her craft was evident in the joy she took in making people feel beautiful, a reflection of the beauty she carried within.

Beyond her work, Doris found pleasure in the simple joys of life. She was an avid cook, often preparing meals to enjoy with Paul, always insisting that the essence of life was not encapsulated in the raviolis but in the love shared over them. Her laughter and stories were a familiar and welcome presence during her visits to her mother in the Bronx, where they would spend time shopping on Arthur Avenue, a place that held a special place in her heart.

Doris's love for dogs was unparalleled, with her favorite, Roxy, receiving all the affection one could muster. The bond they shared was a testament to Doris's capacity for love and companionship. She relished the moments spent sipping iced coffee, a simple pleasure that was a staple in her daily routine.

A social butterfly, Doris enjoyed the company of friends at the local diner, where many a lunch and dinner were filled with laughter and camaraderie. Her voice was a welcome sound to friends over the phone, and her excitement upon receiving cards in the mail was a reflection of her appreciation for the small gestures that connect us all.

Doris's battle with cancer showcased her incredible fortitude and unwavering determination. Her attitude throughout was nothing short of inspirational, and her faith remained steadfast and strong, touching all who witnessed her journey. She was the embodiment of courage, facing her challenges head-on and with a grace that inspired everyone around her.

As the English novelist George Eliot once wrote, "It is never too late to be what you might have been." Doris lived by this creed, continually evolving and embracing life's experiences with an open heart and mind. Her legacy is one of love, strength, and an unending capacity to give of herself.

Doris Campanaro will be remembered as a thoughtful soul, a friendly face, and a courageous spirit. Her memory will be cherished, and her absence deeply felt by all who were fortunate enough to know her. The world is a richer place for having had Doris in it, and she leaves behind a tapestry of memories that will be treasured forever.
