Dolores J.
Kelly
Aug 29, 1933 — Nov 13, 2023
Our Matriarch, Dolores Julia Kelly, passed away peacefully at home on November 13, 2023, surrounded by her loving family. Predeceased by her loving husband, Neil, Dolores, affectionately known as "Dell", was a remarkable woman who spent 90 wonderful years bringing joy and love to all those around her, but especially to her beloved family that she cherished with all her heart.
Born in Schenectady, New York on August 29, 1933, Dolores was a proud alumna of St. Joseph's Catholic School and Albany Business College. Her educational journey laid the foundation for a lifetime of hard work and dedication, both professionally and personally. She was employed at GE, where she not only made significant contributions but also met the love of her life, Neil Kelly, or as she called him, "Kell". Their love story was one for the ages, marrying April 24,1954 and moving around New York and Florida together, eventually planting roots in Hyde Park, New York in 1965 where they'd go on to raise their nine beautiful children.
Dolores found joy in everything she did. She especially loved swimming, walking, baking, and bowling. She was also a past member of the Roosevelt Fire District's Ladies Auxiliary. But perhaps her most cherished pastime was creating a loving home filled with joy, laughter and plenty of homemade mac and cheese and molasses cookies for her adoring grandkids. To describe Dolores as selfless, generous and loving would be an understatement. She was a woman who lived her life with purpose and passion, always putting others before herself. Her generosity and kindness knew no bounds. She was the heart of her family, the guiding star for her children, and a pillar of strength and support for her husband and grandkids.
She is survived by her loving children Kathy Blackburn (Mike), Bryan Kelly (Becky), Jack Kelly (Sharon), Karen Rae (Bill), Kevin Kelly, Joe Kelly (Jeanne), Jim Kelly, Julie Rotolo (Anthony), and Laurie Tortarella. Dolores also holds a special place in her heart for her former daughter-in-laws Tammy, Laura, Tracey, and Jessica, and son-in-laws George Tortarella and Bob Morris. Her legacy will continue through her beloved grandchildren Craig Morris (Roxy), Eric Morris (Amanda), Jamie Kelly, Justin Kelly, Dana Bayer (Mike), Jacquelyn Rae Notaro (Steven), Sean Rae, Nicole Rae, Samara Kelly, Jenna Kelly, Christopher Kelly, Heather Kelly, Jessica Rotolo Gleasman (Cory), Tyler Rotolo, and Shayla Tortarella (Evan). Her great-grandchildren, Sophia, Scarlet, Ainsley, and Hudson Morris, Mia, and Emma Bayer, will undoubtedly carry her loving spirit forward.
In addition to her husband, Neil, she was also predeceased by her sisters Dorothy Shaw, and Joan Moonan Simonds, her brother John VonStetina.
A life beautifully lived, a legacy powerfully left. Dolores Julia Kelly will be deeply missed, but her spirit will forever live on in the hearts of those she loved and the lives she touched.
As per her wishes, there will be no calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, November 17, 2023 at 10:00 am at Regina Coeli Church, Rte. 9, Hyde Park.
Entombment will follow in the Mausoleum at St. Peter's Cemetery, Poughkeepsie. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in her name to Hudson Valley Hospice at 374 Violet Avenue, Poughkeepsie, NY 12601, Angels of Light at 28 Front Street, Millbrook, NY 12545 or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital at 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105
