Obituary

Danny Anthony Simpson, 71, of Portland, Jamaica, passed away peacefully at his Poughkeepsie, New York home on January 24, 2024.

He was born on September 24, 1952 in St. Elizabeth parish, Jamaica, to parents Noel and Merle (Bromfield), Simpson.

Danny graduated high school at Munro College, St. Elizabeth in 1969 and was a 1976 graduate of The British Columbia Institute of Technology, (BCIT), in Canada, where he studied Forest Resource Technology.

This initiated his professional calling, as he served for over 40 years within the Forestry Department of Jamaica's Ministry of Agriculture.

Danny was demonstrably passionate about farming and forestry. He cultivated an exceptional work ethic and was awarded for his outstanding contribution to the management of the Rio Grande Watershed in Portland, Jamaica, by the United States Agency for International Development, (USAID). In addition to his work in forestry, he also grew and exported yams and coffee from Jamaica's Blue Mountain range.

When he was not working, he loved reading, discussing current world affairs, watching sports and listening to music. His life was one of selfless service to both his family and his various communities.

He is survived by wife of 45 years, Andrea Clarke; children, Otis "Dillion" Simpson, Renae Simpson, Corina Simpson and Anton Simpson; grandchildren, Arkadia Simpson, Delano Simpson and Ethan Hall; one great-granddaughter, Kehlani Nepaul; siblings, Clyde Simpson, Donna Simpson, Paulette (Simpson) Hamilton and Ted Simpson; along with several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Danny was predeceased by brothers, Patrick Simpson, Glenrick Simpson and Chadwick Simpson.
