Roosevelt, she graduated in 1942 and entered Vassar Brothers Hospital Nursing School. In her senior year, she became a member of the Cadet Nurses Corp. during World War ll, ready to serve wounded service men arriving from overseas. She was a member of the Vassar Brothers Hospital Alumnae Association of Nurses and attended many annual luncheons and banquets with colleagues.
Cynthia accepted a position as school nurse teacher at Wappingers Falls High School. While there, she commuted to New York University and New Paltz teachers college to expand her knowledge and pursue her degree.
On July 31, 1957 at the Dutch Reformed Church in Hyde Park, she married Robert J. Ingram of Peoria, IL. Residing in Illinois, she continued her nursing career and donated her services to the American Red Cross Blood Drives, usually in the evenings at the Caterpillar Plant.
As a homemaker, synchronized by the University of Illinois in Urbana, she participated in all the arts, crafts and baking lessons. She became a member of the Peoria Garden Club serving as a hostess for garden walks. She also enjoyed studying Ikebana flower arranging in central Illinois. For 45 years, she and her husband were members of a hospitality dinner and card club, meeting monthly with a different hostess each month. Cynthia took pride in her vegetable and flower gardens, her home and her appearance.
Her love of art was enhanced by lessons under Mr. Claus at Roosevelt High School. In Peoria she searched out art instruction and studied privately in groups under five. Her art work received many ribbon awards and she gave her paintings away freely.
After her husband passed away in September of 2004, she moved back into the home where she was born in Hyde Park, which was built by her father and next door to her brother Dirk.
She spent a few years at the Renaissance Rehabilitation and Care Center in Staatsburg, NY where she continued to paint.
