Obituary

Concetta Cecelia Genovese, 95, a former longtime Dutchess County, New York resident, died on December 7, 2024, at her residence in Crossville, Tennessee.

Born February 9, 1929, at home in New York City, she was the eldest daughter of Vincenzo and Sarah Lamonte DeRosa. Connie, as she was known to friends and family, was raised on City Island in the Bronx until she married Alfred Genovese in Southampton, N.Y. and they relocated to Stanfordville, New York. Alfred predeceased her in 2019.

Connie was a trailblazer. She was the first in her family to drive, eventually commuting from Stanfordville to her job at American Express in NYC. After her children were born, she was employed by the City of Poughkeepsie at City Court, working for Judge Melton Haven.

Subsequently, she served as the first Chief Clerk of Poughkeepsie City Court, a job she truly loved. Connie was a longtime member of the Stanford Grange and Treasurer of Stanford Fire District for 29 years. She was also a Justice of the Peace in Stanford, and her favorite part of being Judge was that she could perform weddings.

Connie was devoted to family, her true passion in life. Her extended NYC family enjoyed many weekends "in the country," where her cooking and baking proved "food is love" in Italian families.

She is survived by her daughters, Jean Jicha (Todd) of Pikeville, TN, Irene Mortensen (Mark) of Tewksbury, NJ, and her beloved grandchildren, Matthew Jicha (Emma), Marisa Bozyczko (Thomas), Luke Mortensen, and Lila Mortensen.

She was predeceased by her brother, Frank DeRosa, and sisters, Anna Collica and Jeannette DeRosa.

In addition, she is survived by many cherished nieces and nephews who all loved their Aunt Connie. She affectionately referred to them as "her little chickadees."

Connie was cremated, as was her wish.
