Colleen C.
De Almeida
Sep 6, 1954 — Mar 4, 2025
Let us gather in joyful remembrance of a life so beautifully lived, a heart so deeply cherished. Colleen C De Almeida, known fondly as Mom and Nanny, was a beacon of love and faith in this world. Born on the sixth day of September in the year of our Lord 1954, in the humble town of Wellsville, New York, she embarked on a journey filled with the grace of God. On March 4th, 2025, in Poughkeepsie, New York, Colleen was called home to the Lord, leaving behind the legacy of a life marked by loving kindness and generosity.
Predeceased by her parents, Germaine and Robert Clark, her daughter, Laurie-Lee, and her brother Richard Clark who is survived by his wife Betty Clark. Colleen was a woman of faith who walked hand in hand with her beloved husband, Manuel De Almeida, through the dance of life. Together, they nurtured a family that blossomed with love, raising three daughters, Melissa Wood-Green, Bobbie-Jo Rifenburgh, and Lynette Wood and her beloved husband Fred Sheldon, the son she never had but gained. Her love rippled through the generations, blessing her with nine grandchildren - Ashleigh Genesi, Kevin Rifenburgh, Brandon Wood, Anthony Wood, Carey Harding, Gabrielle Harding, Rebecca Rifenburgh, Emalie Sheldon, and Mikayla Green and sixteen great-grandchildren, each a testament to her boundless love and the values she instilled. She is also survived by her brother Joseph Clark and his late wife Bonnie Clark, her brother and sister-in-law Marie and Billy Rozakis and many nieces and nephews.
Though her formal education culminated with a GED, Colleen's wisdom was not confined to the walls of a classroom. She furthered her knowledge at Krissler and Ridley Lowell Business schools, applying her skills in service to her community through her dedicated work at Dutchess County Child Support Services. Her commitment to service was a reflection of her generous spirit, and it resonated in the hearts of those she helped.
Colleen's interests were simple yet profound. She found joy in the rhythmic dance of a crochet hook and the quiet companionship of a good book. Her time at the senior center was filled with laughter and fellowship, but it was her husband, her family, her grandchildren, and great-grandchildren who were the true joys of her life. Each moment spent with them was a treasure, a pearl of great price in the tapestry of her days.
In the words of the Apostle Paul, "And now these three remain: faith, hope, and love. But the greatest of these is love." (1 Corinthians 13:13). Colleen embodied this scripture, living out her faith through acts of love and generosity. Her heart knew no bounds, and she gave of herself freely, spreading warmth and kindness wherever she went.
Colleen was a woman of deep faith, and it was this faith that sustained her through her battle with cardiomyopathy. Even as her physical heart weakened, her spiritual heart remained strong and unwavering. Each day she faced with a grace that inspired all who knew her, a living testament to the power of faith in the face of adversity.
As we bid farewell to our beloved Colleen, let us not dwell in the valley of sorrow but rejoice in the mountain of memories she has left us. She was a loving wife, a devoted mother, a doting grandmother and great grandmother, and also a cherished friend. Her life was a sermon of love, preached not from the pulpit but through her daily deeds and the gentle touch of her hands.
We take solace in knowing that Colleen has found her eternal resting place in the arms of our Lord, where she will crochet the fabric of the heavens and read the chapters of eternity. Her legacy will continue to live on through the lives of those she touched, a legacy that will not be forgotten.
As the sun sets on this earthly chapter, we look to the dawn of everlasting life, where we shall meet again. Colleen C De Almeida, your love will forever be the wind beneath our wings, the echo of your laughter will be the hymn that soothes our hearts, and your memory will be the light that guides us home. Rest now in peace, dear Colleen, for you have fought the good fight, you have finished the race, you have kept the faith. And now, there is in store for you the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to you on that day. Amen.
