Cecelia M. Simmons, 76, a longtime resident of Hyde Park, died on Monday, August 22, 2022, at Vassar Brothers Medical Center, Poughkeepsie. Born February 11, 1946, in Poughkeepsie, she was the daughter of Joseph Simmons Sr. and Bertha Berish Simmons. Cecelia enjoyed bowling, arts and crafts, knitting, crocheting and doing needlework. She loved spending time outdoors, cross-country skiing, snow shoeing, and tending to her flower and vegetable gardens. A graduate of St. Peter's Parochial School, Ms. Simmons was a 1965 graduate of Poughkeepsie High School. Cecelia was a secretary at the former St. Francis Hospital in Poughkeepsie for forty-two years until her retirement. Cecelia liked to spend time with her friends and do things for others. Survivors include her brother, John (Linda) Simmons, of the Town of Poughkeepsie; brother, David (Kathy) Simmons, of Maine; sister, Elizabeth Walsh, of Poughkeepsie; many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and cousins. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her brother, Joseph Simmons Jr. In keeping with her wishes, there will be no calling hours. Graveside services and burial will be at 11 AM, Saturday, August 27th at St. Peter's Cemetery, 171 Salt Point Tpke., Poughkeepsie. Fr. Daniel D'Alliessi will officiate.
