Caroline J.
Glavich
Sep 17, 1935 — Aug 8, 2024
Caroline J. Glavich, 88, formerly of Hyde Park, passed away peacefully on August 8, 2024 at The Pines Nursing Home in Poughkeepsie due to complications from Lewy Body Dementia. Born on September 17, 1935 in Kingston, she was the daughter of John and Elizabeth (Nunnold) Tremper.
Caroline loved growing up in Kingston, with High School being the time of her life. While at Kingston High School,, she was very active in Cheerleading, Basketball, and Softball. She was involved in many other extracurricular activities, among them was being a member of the Kingston High School May Court. After graduating from High School in 1953, Caroline had several jobs, ultimately working for IBM Kingston. Soon after, she would meet her future Husband, Michael J. Glavich, of Los Angeles, California. The two were married in Kingston, New York on February 27th, 1960. Soon afterwards, Caroline resigned from IBM ultimately to raise her three children. With her new Husband, Caroline lived in Tacoma, Washington and then, Tempe, Arizona where she had her first son, Guy, then, finally, San Jose, California where she had her second son, Greg and third son, Gary. After having her three children, she yearned to come back to the east coast. In 1968, the Family moved to Hyde Park, New York which would become "home" for Caroline for the rest of her life. Caroline loved to listen to music, always singing and dancing with songs playing on the radio. She enjoyed raising her children and was very active with her kids, taking them to their sports games and picking them up after practice. She enjoyed running around with her kids whenever she could.
Caroline re-entered the workforce in 1973, working as a switchboard operator at the Astor Home for Children in Rhinebeck, and then, at GAB in Poughkeepsie. In 1980, she was, once again, hired by IBM in Poughkeepsie in the Finance department. A few years later, Caroline transferred to the IBM Flight Operations department at the Dutchess County Airport. In early 1993, she transferred with IBM to the Flight Operations department to the Westchester County Airport where she remained until her retirement in 2005. She enjoyed her co-workers and spent time with them after work at dinners and gatherings. She was involved in several activities outside of work including the IBM mixed Softball league and Bowling leagues at Spins in Poughkeepsie. You could also find Caroline signing Karaoke as well as dancing with her friends from IBM. She enjoyed her life and life enjoyed her.
She is survived by her three sons, Guy S. Glavich and Wife, Norma, of Austin, Texas; Dr. Gregory M. Glavich and Wife, Susan, of Lagrangeville, New York; Gary J. Glavich and Wife, Colleen, of Raleigh, North Carolina and, of course, her Grandchildren whom she loved very much; Garrison, Courtney, Dominick, and Jonathan, as well as her four great grandchildren.
She is also survived by her siblings, Mary Broadhead and Joseph Tremper, both of Kingston.
Caroline was predeceased by her brother, Jack and her ex-Husband, Michael.
The Family would like to thank Dr. Scott Kahn, Dr. Sayeed Yousef and Dr. Dimitrios Papadopoulos as well as all of the other Physicians and Nurses who treated Caroline. The Family would also like to thank the Hyde Park Fire Dept./Roosevelt Ambulance as well as all of the wonderful people who work at The Landing of Poughkeepsie Memory Care Unit and The Pines of Poughkeepsie, in particular, the 2nd and 6th floors.
