Obituary

On June 9, 2025, Brenda K. Santoro lost her courageous battle with pancreatic cancer at home in Hyde Park, with her family and beloved dogs nearby.

Born on November 9, 1967 to Roberta Warren and Leslie Warren, Brenda was a lifetime resident of Dutchess County. Brenda was a 1985 graduate of John Jay High School and received her Associates degree in Accounting from Dutchess Community College in 1987, finishing her Bachelor's degree in Accounting at SUNY New Paltz in 1993.

On May 28, 1989, Brenda married Jim Santoro and they have 2 wonderful children together, Dr. Shannon Santoro of Brooklyn and Michael Santoro of Hyde Park. The family became complete in recent years with the additions of Brenda's "babies", golden retrievers Charlie and Teddy.

Brenda was a trusted partner and CPA for many years with Prager Metis (formerly D'Arcangelo & Co.) in Poughkeepsie. She was a member of the NYS Society of Certified Public Accountants and was the first ever woman named as chair of their Peer Review committee in 2017. Brenda was also a member of the Community Foundations of the Hudson Valley's Board of Trustees and had also served as their Board Chair. Brenda was looking forward to becoming more involved with the Miles of Hope Breast Cancer Foundation as they were a valuable resource for her during her earlier breast cancer diagnosis, but unfortunately her later health issues prevented this.

Brenda spent over 35 years as a teacher and choreographer at Claudia's Dance Studio in Hopewell Junction. She loved teaching all of her students and especially loved it when she could share her love of dance with daughter Shannon Santoro, nieces Nicole Peace and Beth Danna, and goddaughter Melissa Tracy. Those years were some of her favorite memories.

When not at work or teaching dance, Brenda could always be found at the baseball fields in Hyde Park (or in many other locations) cheering on her son Michael Santoro and his teammates no matter the weather.

Brenda is survived by her husband Jim Santoro, daughter Shannon Santoro, son Michael Santoro (girlfriend, Casey O'Brien) mother Roberta Warren, brother Daren Warren (wife Rebecca), sister Tracy Romeo (husband Ryan) and father Leslie Warren (wife Elizabeth). And let's not forget Charlie and Teddy who provided her with love and comfort in her last days.

The family would like to thank all of the nurses who gave guidance, comforted and cared for Brenda over the last 2 years. Nurses are amazing people who don't get enough credit for the work they do, and we'd like to let them know that the care Brenda received did not go unnoticed.

In lieu of flowers, Brenda's wish was that people make donations to the Miles of Hope Breast Cancer Foundation or to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network (PanCAN) in her honor as these organizations both benefited her during her cancer journey.

In keeping with her wishes, cremation has taken place.

Calling hours will be on Thursday June 12th, 2025 from 4pm to 7pm at Sweet's Funeral Home, 4365 Albany Post Rd. Hyde Park, NY 12538.

A memorial service will take place on Friday June 13th at 10am at the funeral home.
