Betty
Thompson
Mar 29, 1938 — Mar 10, 2024
Betty Thompson of Ulster County, NY, and formerly of the Bronx, passed away on Sunday, March 10, 2024, at home with her family by her side.
Born March 29, 1938, in Dillon, SC, she was the eldest daughter of the late Margaret and McDuffie Bullock.
Betty was married to the love of her life, the late Bishop Billie Lee Thompson, for over 40 years before his passing in February 1999.
Betty was a woman of great faith, and she served the Lord through various ministries. One of her greatest passions was working with young people. Betty often spoke of wanting to open a home for at-risk youth.
Betty loved to spend time with her family and looked forward to her annual vacations with her daughters. She also enjoyed listening to soul music and teaching her children old-school dancing. Her love for beauty was evident in her green thumb, weekly manicures, cooking competitions, and shopping sprees. She was always known to be very fashionable.
When time permitted, Betty thoroughly enjoyed watching classic television shows and Western movies. It was not uncommon to hear theme songs from "The Rifleman", "Wagon Train", or "The Real McCoys" echoing from her bedroom.
Betty is survived by her children; Reginald Bullock, Wanda Lee Evans and husband Larry, Pastor Kenneth Lee Thompson, David Thompson, and wife Renee, Christopher Thompson, Patricia Thompson, and Rev. Melissa Thompson; 7 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
She is also survived by her siblings, McDuffie Bullock, Jimmy Bullock, Geraldine Thompson, Barbara Jane Jenkins, and Grace Hill, and many adopted children, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Along with her parents, Betty was predeceased by her husband, Billie, her beloved son, Garry, and her grandson, Kevin.
