Betty Lou
Cifone
Feb 10, 1942 — Aug 10, 2023
Betty Lou Cifone, 81, sadly left us on August 10th, 2023 following a brief illness. Born on February 10, 1942 in New Rochelle, NY to Lillian Pagan Oldenburgh and Frederick Oldenburg.
Betty Lou's spirit was as fiery as her personality. Known for her spunk and quick wit, she wasn't afraid to speak her mind and stand up for what she believed in. Her days at Vassar College were more than just a job - they were a testament to her unwavering work ethic. She spent more than 25 years building relationships with students and colleagues alike.
In the realm of friendships and family, Betty Lou was the glue that held everyone together. She had a way of turning ordinary moments into cherished memories.
She was survived by her siblings Margaret Traver, Dora Randolph, Edith (& Joe) Hatch, Henry (& Debby) Oldenburg, and Helen (& George) Tompkins. She was predeceased by her husband Walter P. Cifone on April 11, 1993, as well as her sister Jean Wilbur, and brothers Frederick and William Oldenburg.
Her love and support for her children and grandchildren knew no bounds. Her legacy continues through her five children: Lori (& Mike) Gore, Tracy (& Nick) Grittlow, Cheryl Hanlon (& MIke Lewis), Michael Cifone (& Karen Watkiss), and Scott (& Jodi) Cifone.
The love and joy her grandkids and great grandkids brought her, was immeasurable. Her 11 Grandchildren include Jennifer (& Angus) Gore-Cuthbert, Ashley (& Orlando) Lorié, Kelly Gore, Heather (& Jon) Barrett, Alyssa Hanlon, Chelsea Hanlon (& Edward Simon), Nicholas Grittlow, Samuel and Maxwell Cifone, and lastly Matthew and Michael Cifone. Her 7 Great-grandchildren include: MaKayla, Briella, and Bruce Barrett; Julia, Colin, and Bennett Cuthbert; and Beau Lorié.
In addition to her loving family, Betty Lou has several special and endearing people whom she felt were like family, including Dee Hill, Vincent Brugger, Bobby Hanlon, Lara Weisman, Hunter Gnann, and Evan and Emma Watkiss.
Betty Lou loved her Petey! As her faithful canine companion, he is sweet and loving, and provided her daily comfort and unconditional love.
The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff at Mid-Hudson Regional Hospital, namely the ER and 6 Cooke medical staff (nurses) for her excellent care.
Betty Lou's memory lives on in the hearts of all that knew her and will forever cherish her vibrant spirit and sass.
