Betty
Dubois
Jul 27, 1936 — Jun 27, 2024
Betty Dubois passed away on June 27, 2024, at home in the loving care of her daughter, Lori. Betty was exactly one month short of her 88th birthday.
Born July 27, 1936, in Middletown, she was the daughter of the late Delzen Moore. Betty was a 1953 graduate of Middletown High School.
Mrs. DuBois worked as a bookkeeper for many years until her retirement.
Before it closed, Betty was a communicant of St. Paul's Roman Catholic Church in Staatsburg, where she served on the Altar Rosary Society. More recently, she was an active communicant of Regina Coeli Church in Hyde Park, where she was a part of the Bible Sharing Group.
On September 6, 1959, in Middletown, she married William A. DuBois. Mr. DuBois predeceased her on February 1, 1995.
Betty lived a full life overcoming adversities that would render most people incapable of carrying on. Her tenacity to live life looking for the good it had to offer was always present. She endeared herself to many with her talent to bring laughter into a room with her quick wit and many quips.
She had several nicknames, among them; "Betty Spaghetti," she always said that was an Italian wannabe; "Betty the Beer Babe," which was acquired after years of serving as a gatekeeper at the beer tent for Regina Coeli's annual fair; and most notably, "Betty Boop".
Survivors include her two daughters, Judith A. Griffin and longtime companion, Bruce Dring, and Lori J. DuBois, both of Hyde Park; son, W. Keith D. DuBois and wife, Chris, of Citrus Springs, FL; two grandchildren, Joshua M. Griffin (Marilyn) of Poughkeepsie, and Rebecca Jo M. Johnson (Michael) of Staatsburg; and three great grandchildren, Alijah Michael Johnson, Jaelynn Johnson, and Joshua M. Griffin Jr.
She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her granddaughter, Jessica L. DuBois, in 1994, and a brother, James Moore.
Calling hours will be from 4 to 7 PM, Tuesday, July 2, 2024, at Sweet's Funeral Home, Rte. 9, Hyde Park.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 AM, Wednesday, July 3rd at Regina Coeli Church , Rte. 9, Hyde Park.
Burial will follow in the family plot in Bruynswick Rural Cemetery, Wallkill, NY.
Bett's family has respectfully requested memorial donations to the Hudson Valley Hospice Foundation, 80 Washington St., Suite 204 , Poughkeepsie, NY 12601. (www.hvhospice.org)
