Poughkeepsie – Barbara Ann Broas, 85, a lifelong Poughkeepsie resident, passed away peacefully at home on November 27, 2023. She was affectionately known as "Sarge" to her family.

Born in Poughkeepsie on April 6, 1938, she was the daughter of the late John and Marion Cole McCombs.

A 1958 graduate of Poughkeepsie High School, Barbara worked at IBM Poughkeepsie for many years until her retirement.

She enjoyed reading and spending time with her "luncheon friends".

On April 17, 1960, in St. Mary's Church, Poughkeepsie, she married Robert Broas. Her husband predeceased her in 2008.

Survivors include her daughter, Dorothy Young, and husband, George Young Jr., of Hyde Park; four grandchildren, Danielle Gonzalez and Rebecca Jones, both of Poughkeepsie, Megan Young (Shawn Mullen) of Saugerties, and Joseph Young (Jackie Picard) of Hyde Park; and great granddaughter, Drew Hazel Mullen.

She is also survived by her brother, Jack McCombs, and wife, Helen, of Hyde Park; niece, Kathy Morales, and husband, Dan, of Clintondale; nephew, John McCombs, and wife, Deborah, of LaGrange; and great nieces and nephews, Jack and Maria Morales, and Jillian McCombs.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by her daughter, Gyna Gonzalez, in April 2021, and sister-in-law, Rebecca Allen.

Barbara's family would like to thank Hospice of the Hudson Valley (especially nurse, Lawrence), and her live-in aide (her angel), Theresa Young, for all their compassion and care.

Calling hours will be from 4 to 7 PM, Thursday, November 30th at Sweet's Funeral Home, Rte. 9, Hyde Park.

Funeral services will be at 11:30 AM, Friday, December 1st at the Funeral Home.

Entombment will follow in the Community Mausoleum of Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery.
