Arthur Karsten Tiedemann

Arthur Karsten Tiedemann of Salt Point, New York, passed away peacefully at the age of 86, on Monday October 19, 2026 at his home surrounded by loved ones.

Born on June 21st 1940, in the Bronx, New York, he was the son of the late Karsten and Elizabeth Hahnen Tiedemann.

Arthur lived a life surrounded by his family, friends and being an active member in his community. Following his graduation from Roosevelt High School in 1959 he followed his fathers footsteps and began working as an elevator mechanic. There he diligently became an asset and skilled tradesman of his craft. After his early retirement, he spent the second part of his life finding joy in his passions for gardening, family and traveling.

Thanks to the help of some friends setting them up on a date, Eileen and Arthur met in 1962. On May 8 1965, at St. James Chapel in Hyde Park, he married Eileen and enjoyed 61 years of marriage together.

Together, Arthur and Eileen, raised two strong children who blessed them with four granddaughters. Arthur was a diligent and loving grandfather who went to many games, plays, and was a champion to them. He showed his love through actions that spoke larger than words.

In the community, Arthur's love for gardening shined. He was a cornerstone in the Dutchess County Fair's horticulture building where he was a volunteer, and showed off his skills in growing gladiolus and dahlias. His flowers were always seen decorating the St. Timothy Lutheran Church and were admired by all.

Arthur always had a love for sports and a competitive streak. From dominating the tennis court to destroying the pins at a bowling alley, his passion for sports was infinite. He never missed watching the Mets or Cowboys games. Family nights were often centered around a board game or cards. He became a tennis coach to support his granddaughter Lyndsey and always encouraged all of his granddaughters to go for the win. Either on the sidelines cheering or on the court himself, Arthur's presence was a constant source of joy.

In addition to his loving wife, Eileen Tiedemann, Arthur is survived by his children Karen Tiedemann-Morris, and her husband Richard, Craig Tiedemann; four grandchildren Nicole Piesnikowski and her husband Michael, Danielle Girard and her husband Joshua, Amanda Tiedemann and Lyndsey Tiedemann. Arthur recently was able to meet his great-granddaughter Laura Piesnikowski.

For those who knew him and will miss him deeply, may his memory be a blessing. In keeping with his wishes, a celebration of life will be held for Arthur in the spring.
