Obituary

Arthur Herbert Herzfeld, 88, a lifelong area resident, died peacefully at home on February 20, 2023, with his family by his side.

Born September 7, 1934, in Poughkeepsie, he was the son of George and Lena Rhynders Herzfeld.

Art was a farmer all his life. He loved to work outside and loved farming, especially dairy farming. He worked for several local farms during his career, including Seelbach Farm, Clinton Corners, Boardman's Farm, Stanfordville, and Thorndale and Wallbridge Farms, both in Millbrook.

In his free time, he enjoyed bowling, spending time in his garden, and working on jig-saw puzzles. Decorating his home for Christmas was an annual event for Art that he loved and looked forward to every year.

Art also looked forward to the Dutchess County Fair every year. He would spend all week at the fair visiting with some of his farming colleagues. He also won many ribbons at the fair for his agricultural entries.

Survivors include his sister-in-law, Marie Herzfeld, of Hyde Park; and many nieces and nephews, especially Loretta (Manny) Bougades of Clinton Hollow, Lena (Alvin) Merritt of Amenia, Liz McPhee of Hyde Park, Bernie (Heidi) Herzfeld of Hyde Park, Linda Sullivan of the Town of Clinton, Dan (Linda) Hatch of Maine, and Tim (Jean) Hatch of Pennsylvania.

Art is also survived by many great nieces and nephews, who he enjoyed spending time with.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by two brothers, Bernie and Gordon; and two sisters, Virginia and Jean.

In keeping with his wishes, cremation has taken place.

A Celebration of Art's Life will be held from 2 to 5 PM, Sunday, February 26th at the VFW Post #170, 1 Violet Ave., Poughkeepsie.

The Herzfeld family would like to express special thanks to Hudson Valley Hospice for their loving compassion and care in Art's final days.

In lieu of flowers, Art's family respectfully requests memorial donations to the Hudson Valley Hospice Foundation, 80 Washington Street, Suite 204, Poughkeepsie, NY 12601. (www.hvhospice.org)
