Anneliese
Kreig
Nov 21, 1934 — Jun 4, 2026
Philadelphia, NY – Anneliese Kreig, 91, a former Hyde Park resident since 1957, passed away peacefully on June 4, 2026 in Philadelphia, New York, surrounded by family.
Anneliese was born on November 21, 1934 in Germany to the late Alfred and Elise Ruh and grew up in Landstuhl, Germany. In 1954 while working on Landstuhl (Ramstein) Air Base she met her future husband, Sherwood. In September 1955 they married at the base chapel and began a 62-year long loving life together. Sherwood passed away in 2017.
Following Sherwood's discharge from the United States Air Force, they settled in Hyde Park, NY where Anneliese focused on raising their young family. Anneliese was an active parishioner at the Reformed Dutch Church of Hyde Park, where she regularly attended service for over 60 years as a member of the choir. Proud of her German heritage, she joined the Germania Society of Poughkeepsie in 1991 and served as Membership Secretary. She was also a member of the Steuben Society.
Anneliese was especially proud of serving for nearly 20 years as a Teacher's Aide in the Hyde Park Central School District. She started as an aide at North Park Elementary School and retired from FD Roosevelt High School. For many years after she retired, she glowed when former students recognized her and greeted her, many times thanking her for helping them in school. Following her retirement, she and Sherwood frequently traveled across the United States and to Germany to visit their children and grandchildren. Anneliese became a United States citizen in 1960 and proudly served as an election site worker for over 20 years until declining health forced her to give up what she felt was her civic duty.
Anneliese is survived by one daughter and her husband, Anneliese and Robert O'Neil of Hyde Park, NY; four sons and their wives, Donald and Kathy Kreig of Philadelphia, NY, Robert and Jackie Kreig of Farr West, UT, Ronald and Maureen Kreig of Saint James City, FL and Christopher and JoAnn Kreig of Port Kent, NY. She was blessed with many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her brother, Wolfgang Ruh.
Calling hours will be from 10 to 12 am on Saturday, June 20th followed by Funeral services at Sweet's Funeral Home, Inc., Hyde Park. Burial will follow in the family plot at Union Cemetery of Hyde Park.
