Allen Edward
Stacey
Oct 18, 1943 — Aug 7, 2026
Allen Edward Stacey, 82, of Hyde Park, New York, passed away on August 7, 2026. He was born on October 18, 1943, in Newton, Massachusetts, the son of Edward Herbert Stacey and Dora Louise (Collomb) Stacey. He grew up in the Boston area and graduated from Lexington High School in 1961. On March 23, 1963, Al married Faye B. True of Watertown, MA, at the First Baptist Church of Belmont, Massachusetts. Their marriage spanned more than 60 years, with numerous Navy assignments and homes on the East Coast before settling in Hyde Park, NY. Together they raised their two children, Laura and David, and several golden retrievers. His wife Faye passed away on April 22, 2023.
Al enlisted in the United States Navy in 1962 as a Polaris/Poseidon Missile Technician, serving in the Fleet Ballistic Missile submarine force. He served aboard the USS John Adams, USS Will Rogers, and USS George Washington Carver, completing 19 deterrent patrols. He rose through the enlisted ranks to the Navy's highest enlisted level of E-9 to become Master Chief Fire Control Technician FTCM(SS). He served as Chief of the Boat, the senior enlisted advisor to a submarine's command. He also served as an instructor and Master Training Specialist in Groton, CT. His military honors included the Navy Commendation Medal, Navy Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal, five Good Conduct Awards, and other citations. He retired from active duty in 1984 after more than 22 years of service.
During those years, Al's service continued beyond the Navy. He volunteered as a Scout Master and a firefighter in Bozrah, CT. After retiring from active duty, he began a second career in developmental engineering, supporting the Naval Undersea Warfare Center. He worked for Hughes Aircraft, McLaughlin Research, and SEA CORP before retiring in 2006, after 22 years of work following his naval career.
Christian faith remained an important part of Al's life. Worshiping and serving in the American Baptist Church and later joining the United Methodist Church of Hyde Park, NY singing in the choir.
An enduring part of Al and Faye's life was their cabin on a lake in Sweden, Maine, purchased in 1992. For more than three decades it was a special place to gather family and friends to enjoy summers of swimming, boating, hiking, blueberries, campfires, s'mores, fireworks, star-filled nights, and many wonderful memories.
Al was predeceased by his beloved wife, Faye True Stacey; his parents, Edward and Dora Stacey; and his brother, Bruce C. Stacey, who died only weeks before him. He is survived by his daughter, Laura Stacey Gabor, and her husband, Kregg; his son, David Allen Stacey, and his wife, Kristin; his grandchildren, Emma Grace Gabor, Ethan David Stacey, and Silas Alan Stacey; his sister, Cynthia (Stacey) Bailey, and her husband, Stephen; sister-in-law, Linda Barrows Stacey; and extended family and friends.
Allen was a kind, caring, and generous man, always willing to lend a hand. He served his country, his community, and his church. He enjoyed reading, singing, ice cream, dogs, projects, making us laugh, his cabin in Maine, and time with his family and friends. His faithful and loving presence will be greatly missed, but his memory, love, and legacy of faith will live on in our hearts.
Services will be held at the United Methodist Church of Hyde Park, NY, 1 Church St. on Saturday, September 5, 2026, at 1:00 PM.
Al and Faye's ashes will be entombed together at a later date at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, Schuylerville, NY.
