Obituary

Allan William Wheeler

October 31, 1943 – April 16, 2025

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Allan William Wheeler, who left us peacefully on April 16, 2025, at the age of 81. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, Allan lived a life rich with love and laughter.

Born on October 31, 1943, in Rhinebeck, New York, and raised in Jackson Corners, Allan was the beloved son of Claire and Allan S. Wheeler (both predeceased) and the cherished brother of Lois C. Sullivan. He is survived by his loving wife, Felicita Wheeler, and her children: Darryl R. Reeves, Bryan A. Reeves, and Shayna M. Reeves. Allan and Felicita shared a deep, genuine love for each other that was a joy to behold.

Allan was a devoted and loving father. He always held his daughter, Daina S. Wheeler, who predeceased him, in his heart. He was a steadfast source of strength, support, and good humor to his surviving children, Lisa A. Wheeler (Jared Hartwell), Kristen V. (Wheeler) Murphy, and Allan D. Wheeler (Keith Hudes), and a proud grandfather to Kerry and Daniel, children of Kristen. He was also a proud uncle to his nieces Shannon M. Sullivan and Tara M. Sullivan, whom he loved dearly. Ward Potter (Marva), his lifelong friend, was a constant presence in his life.

Allan graduated from Marist College in 1965, when it was still an all-boys school, and quickly began a remarkable 52-year career at Central Hudson Gas & Electric (1965–2017) in Poughkeepsie, NY. Allan had many job titles but was most fondly known for his work as acting CEO of the Credit Union, a role he held until retiring.

Allan was known for his big heart and his ability to befriend everyone he met. Whether in a room full of strangers or at a family gathering, Allan made others feel welcome, seen, and appreciated. He lived as a devoted husband, father, son, brother, uncle, and friend, and his generous spirit and good humor left a lasting mark on all who had the privilege of knowing him.

His dedication to community was unwavering. Allan served as Chaplain of the Exempt Firemen's Association for 10 years, First Vice President of the Exempt Firemen's Association, and was a cornerstone of the Elks Lodge #275, serving as Treasurer for 35 years and holding two terms as Exalted Ruler. From 1984 to 2019, Allan was also the proud organizer of an annual Motorcycle Rally to Benefit Cerebral Palsy, championing a cause close to his heart for 35 consecutive years.

Relatives and friends may call from 1 pm to 3:30 pm on Thursday, April 24, 2025 at Sweet's Funeral Home, Rte. 9, Hyde Park. Memorial services will begin at 3:30 pm with Chris Petsas officiating. Bring your fond memories to share with the family.

In place of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Allan's name to the Amercian Cancer Society or the Cerebral Palsy Foundation, honoring his lifelong commitment to service, family, and community.

Allan William Wheeler will be remembered for the warmth, love, and joy he brought to those around him. May his legacy live on in all of us.
