Obituary

Allan "Al" Keeling, a long time resident of Hyde Park and more formerly of Ocala Florida, passed away June 14, 2026.

Al had a passion for travel and found great joy exploring lighthouses, historic forts, National Parks, museums, and places rich in history. Whether discovering a new destination or simply taking in the beauty of the shoreline, Al appreciated every opportunity to learn and experience the world.

An accomplished artist and lifelong learner, Al enjoyed reading, challenging himself with Sudoku puzzles, and sharing his knowledge with others. Intelligent, thoughtful, and nostalgic, he was known for his unique sense of humor that could catch people off guard and leave them smiling.

Sports were another lifelong passion. Al was a devoted fan of the Boston Red Sox, the University of Connecticut Huskies, and the Florida Gators. Yet nothing brought him greater pride than watching his own players grow not only as athletes but as confident, compassionate individuals.

His players said it best, "There are people who come into your life for a season and then there are people like Mr. Keeling who leave a mark that lasts forever".

"He believed in young players, gave us confidence when we doubted ourselves, and led with faith and integrity in everything he did. Years later, the lessons he taught still remain. I'm grateful I had the privilege of being coached by such a truly good man."

Most of his athletes remember him for his patience, unwavering belief in every player, his quick wit, and his ability to make everyone feel valued. Whether encouraging a struggling athlete, adapting activities so every student could succeed, keeping meticulous statistics on his clipboard, or joking with his teams during practice, Al created an environment where students felt respected, challenged, and supported. His former players often remarked that the lessons he taught about character, faith, teamwork, and resilience remained with them throughout their lives.

Al was also a strong supporter of the HPTA and helped with the union's efforts and leadership. He was a natural mentor at FDR and Haviland, helping colleagues way before a formal "Mentorship Program" was instituted in the district.

Those who knew Al will remember his quiet but steady presence, his willingness to listen, his generous spirit, and the genuine care he showed for everyone he encountered. Through his years of teaching, coaching, mentoring, and friendship, he made an immeasurable difference in the Hyde Park community. His legacy lives on in the countless lives he impacted and the lessons he taught them.

He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, former students, colleagues, and generations of athletes whose lives are richer because they had the privilege of knowing Coach Keeling.

Al is survived by his wife, Louise Keeling; of FL, his daughter Kathryn Keeling and partner David Mohr, of GA; Shana Keeling-Clarke and husband Brian, of NY. He is predeceased by his son Kyle who passed in 2022.

He is also survived by his grandchildren Tiffany Davis; of FL, Tyler Davis and Corey Keeling; of NY, Joseph Rizzo; of FL, and his great grand daughter, Sofia Dos Santos; of FL.

Cremation has taken place in Florida.
