Obituary for Pedro Gala

Pedro Gala, 53, a longtime area resident, lost his valiant battle with pancreatic cancer on Friday, May 24, 2019, at the Cancer Treatment Center of America in Philadelphia.
Born July 15, 1965 in Havana, Cuba, he was the son of the late Pedro Gala and Evidia Rodriguez Gala. His mother survives.
Pedro worked at Kingston Hospital for several years, first in the Security Department and most recently as a Telemetry Technician. He loved his job, but nothing more than his family.
J ovial has been used to describe Pedro throughout his life.
A lways willing to lend a smile or more is what made him loved by everyone.
C ourage helped Pedro keep fighting, giving him time to make everyone else stronger by example.
K nown as a big Teddy bear, Pedro had the ability to defuse any situation with a hug and a belly laugh, contrary to his intimidating physical appearance. His daunting and nearly impossible escapades led so many to enjoy a better life.
Our  Teddy bear will never be forgotten.
On September 19, 1992 in Hopewell Junction, he married the former Kimberley A. Ferraro. Mrs. Gala survives at home.
In addition to his wife and mother, he is survived by his daughter, Jordyn Gala of Poughkeepsie; son, Vincent Gala of Hyde Park; son, Peter Gala of Poughkeepsie; daughter, Joei Gala-Short and husband, John, of New Jersey; two grandchildren, Kyleigh and Audrina Gala; sister, Maria Gala-Sorbello and husband, Stephen, and niece, Alexandra Sorbello, all of Levittown; sister-in-law, Lea Ferraro, and nephew, Gianni Ferraro, both of Massachusetts; and many cousins.
In addition to his father, he was predeceased by his infant daughter, Gabrielle.
Calling hours will be from 4 to 8 pm, Tuesday, May 28th and from 3 to 7pm, Wednesday, May 29th at Sweet's Funeral Home, Rte. 9, Hyde Park.
Funeral services will be at 7 pm, Wednesday (following visitation) at the Funeral Home. Rev. Dr. Donald Heringa will officiate.
In keeping with his wishes, cremation will take place at the family’s convenience.
In lieu of flowers, Pedro's family respectfully requests memorial donations to Rocky Strong, Inc., P.O. Box 23, Hyde Park, NY 12538. (www.rockystrong.org)
