Obituary for Lorraine Ann Hedrick

Salt Point – Lorraine Ann Hedrick, 59, a longtime area resident, died peacefully at home on Monday, October 29, 2018 with her family by her side.
Born on November 1, 1958 in Queens, she was the daughter of the late John H. and Helen C. Collins.
Lori graduated from F.D. Roosevelt High School in Hyde Park, and received her Associate Degree from Dutchess Community College, Bachelor’s Degree from SUNY Geneseo, and Master’s Degree from the College of St. Rose in Albany. Most recently, she was very proud to have received her Administrator Certificate from SUNY New Paltz.
For over thirty years she touched many lives as a Special Education Coordinator for the Mid-Hudson Regional Early Intervention Program in Poughkeepsie. Her passion and devotion to her classroom and kids gave her the fortitude to work right up until the moment she became physically unable to carry on.
Her faith was very important to her and she was active in many Catholic organizations. She was a communicant of St. Peter’s Church in Hyde Park, where she also served as the second grade CCD teacher. She loved helping her students prepare for the Sacrament of First Holy Communion.
Lori also loved to run and proudly ran in nine marathons, most notably the Boston and Pittsburgh Marathons. In true Lori fashion, she often ran for a cause that was important to her.
On August 1, 1982 at Regina Coeli Church in Hyde Park, she married Ernest J. Hedrick Jr. Ernie survives at home.
Family was very important to Lori. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her son, Ernie Hedrick III and wife, Ashley, of Washington, D.C.; daughter, Kristilee Hedrick and her partner, Stephen Smallhorn, of Poughkeepsie; sister, Kathy Clarke and husband, Kevin, of Pittsburgh; brother, Joe Collins and wife, Barbara, of Manchester, NH; brother-in-law, Keith Hedrick and wife, Donna, of Modena; brother-in-law, Frank Tkazyik of Poughkeepsie; and father-in-law, Ernest Hedrick Sr. and wife, Marlene, of LaGrangeville.
She loved being Aunt Lori to many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
Lori also touched the lives of countless close friends. She will be missed.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her sister, Margie Tkazyik; brothers, Johnny and Jimmy Collins; brothers-in-law, Ray and Mike Hedrick; and mother-in-law, Leona Elmendorf.
Calling hours will be from 4 to 7 pm, Friday, November 2nd at Sweet’s Funeral Home, Rte. 9, Hyde Park.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 am, Saturday, November 3rd at Our Lady of the Rosary Chapel of St. Peter’s Parish, 185 Hudson View Drive, Poughkeepsie.
Burial will follow in the family plot at St. Peter’s Cemetery, Poughkeepsie.
