Obituary for Jerry Wayne Linster

Hyde Park, NY

     Jerry Wayne Linster, 64, of Hyde Park, NY, died on Wednesday, June 5, 2019, at Mid-Hudson Regional Hospital.
     Born on July 2, 1954 in Winchester, VA, he was the son of Henry and Nila Johnson Linster. His father was a submariner and moved the family from place to place. Jerry went to elementary school in Hawaii, where he was also known for climbing coconut trees. He graduated from Clarke County High School and Dowell J Howard Vocational School in 1974.
     Jerry proudly served in the United States NAVY for two consecutive terms from 1978 to 1986. Jerry served on the USS Tinosa (SSN-606), stationed in New London / Groton, CT; Kittery, ME; Norfolk, VA. He traveled all over the World, passing through the Panama Canal and the Arctic. While serving in the NAVY, he did a little boxing and was known as the "Sandman," being the 1984 PNS Smoker Winner.
     Jerry was honorably discharged from the submarine service in March 1986 and married Sheryl Mae Buckner on April 19, 1986 in a little country church outside Berryville, Va. with many family members and friends in attendance.
     Jerry worked for federal contractors. His last federal contract job was for New Horizons Industries, at the FDR Presidential Library in Hyde Park, NY. He worked there from 2008 until resigning, due to health issues in 2011. Jerry was a member of the American Legion, Poughkeepsie, NY; the VFW Post and the Ender’s Fire and Rescue Company, both in Berryville, VA.
     Survived by his wife, Sheryl Mae Linster, of Hyde Park, NY; his father, Henry Linster of Berryville, VA; a son, John Henry Linster, of Winchester, VA; two brothers, Michael Linster and twin brother, Terry Linster, both of VA; one grandson, Elijah Ryan Linster, (living with his mother, who is in the US Airforce and stationed in Germany), plus many nieces and nephews.
     Cremation took place at Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery. The cremation was handled under the direction of Sweet's Funeral Home, Inc., Rte. 9, Hyde Park, NY.  A memorial service was held in Berryville, VA on June 15, 2019, at the Enders and Shirley Funeral Home.
