Poughkeepsie - Grace Emma Colden, 85, a longtime area resident, died Monday, October 15, 2007 at St. Francis Hospital in Poughkeepsie, NY. Mrs. Colden worked in the maintenance department at the former Wallace's Dept. Store in Poughkeepsie. Following Wallace's, she was a self-employed house cleaner until her retirement in 1973. Born in Gatesville, North Carolina on October 8, 1922, she was the daughter of the late Norman and Elsie Bridgette Hall. On March 11, 1944 in Hinsdale, Massachusetts she married Lee Colden Sr. Mr. Colden predeceased her on May 28, 1979. Survivors include her children, Arnetta J. Colden of Poughkeepsie, and Frederick J. Colden; two grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by four siblings, and one son. Cremation has taken place. Memorial calling hours will be from 9 to 11 am on Saturday, October 20, 2007 at Sweet's Funeral Home, Inc., Rte. 9, Hyde Park A memorial service will follow at 11 A.M. at the funeral home. A family friend, Maria Glover, will be officiating. Burial of her ashes in the family plot in Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery will take place at the convenience of the family.
