Elizabeth C. Rocket POUGHKEEPSIE Elizabeth C. Rocket, 97, a lifelong area resident, died Thursday, Dec. 15,2005 at St.Francis Hospital in Poughkeepsie. Before raising a family, she worked as a cashier and bookkeeper at the former Kreseges Five and Dime Store in Poughkeepsie. Mrs. Rocket was an avid bowler. She bowled in many leagues at the former Dutchess Lanes and more recently, Mardi-Bob Lanes, both in Poughkeepsie. She especially enjoyed bowling with the Tee Timers Ladies League at Mardi-Bob. She was a very active member of the Alliance Church in Poughkeepsie, where she taught Sunday school, vacation bible school and children's church. She also served as a Deaconess with the church. Born Dec. 3, 1908 in Pine Plains, she was the daughter of the late George and Sarah Stemm Milton. She was a graduate of Arlington High School, Class of 1928, which was one of the first classes to graduate from the school located on Raymond Avenue. On Oct. 21, 1934, in New York City, she married Daniel D. Rocket. Mr. Rocket died March 1, 1998. Survivors include her son, Daniel F. Rocket and his wife, Melody of Poughkeepsie; two grandsons, Daniel R. Rocket of Poughkeepsie; David A. Rocket and his wife, Joanne of Marlboro; and two great-grandchildren, Tara Amato and Ryan Rocket, both of Marlboro. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by a sister, Ruth Pendergast. Calling hours will be 1-4 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 18, at Sweet's Funeral Home Inc., Rte. 9, Hyde Park. Funeral services will be 10 a.m., Monday, Dec. 19, at the funeral home. Rev. Michael Gerhardt will be officiating. Burial will be in the family plot at Union Cemetery of Hyde Park.
