Obituary for Douglas Paul Dean

Hyde Park – Douglas Paul Dean, 69, a lifelong area resident, died Sunday, October 28, 2018 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie. (He was often referred to as ͞Paul͟ by friends.) Born in Poughkeepsie on July 9, 1949, he was the son of the late James and Marion Stilwell Dean. He proudly served in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. Mr. Dean was an avid bowler, and motorcycle enthusiast. He liked to play cards and games. He loved spending time with his family and friends and had a very close relationship with his Grandson, Noah. Along with his brother, James, Paul owned and operated Dean’s Painting in Poughkeepsie for over thirty years. He is survived by his daughter, Lauren Dean, and fiancée, Arthur Parent, of Hyde Park; son, Derek Dean of Hopewell Junction; grandchildren, Noah Parent, and Andrew, Christopher, Michael, and Ronald Dean; brother, James Dean of West Park; nephews, Matthew Blake of Nevada and Michael Walker of Florida; Niece, Leslie John of Vermont; along with several esteemed aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. He is also survived by his canine companion, Heidi. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Robin Blake; and brother, Mark Gray. In keeping with his wishes, cremation has taken place. Memorial calling hours will be from 1 to 3 pm, Saturday, November 10th at Sweet’s Funeral Home, Inc., Rte. 9, Hyde Park. Military honors will take place at 2:30 pm. In lieu of flowers, Paul’s family respectfully requests memorial donations to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105 (www.stjude.org).
