Obituary for Casandra M. Reilly

Milton, NY

Casandra M. Reilly, 71, of Milton, NY, was called home by God on Friday, March 8, 2019, at Vassar Brothers Medical Center, Poughkeepsie.

Born on March 3, 1948, in San Juan, Puerto Rico, she was the daughter of Luis Gustavo Cuevas and Milagros Riscard Cuevas. When she was three she moved to the Bronx, New York City. While her family did not have much, she learned the importance of love, family, education, and hard work. Following the example set by her parents, Casandra was the first person in her family to graduate from college, earning a bachelor’s degree in teaching from Hunter College (1970), a bachelor’s in nursing from Montana State University (1976), and a Master’s in Human Resources Management from Mercy College (1995). Casandra worked as a Registered Nurse, Unit Manager, and later in Human Resources Administration for many years at St. James Hospital in Butte, Montana and Vassar Brothers and St. Francis Hospital in Poughkeepsie. Prior to her career in nursing she was a Spanish/English teacher in New York City. In both careers she was used as a tool to fulfill one of her greatest beliefs, that you should always help those that needed it. She retired from her nursing career in 1999.

On Saturday, April 17, 1999, she married Donald J. Reilly, sharing nearly 20 years of their lives until her passing. Casandra was a dedicated mom and wife who loved her family with everything she had, sharing that love and welcoming into her home anyone who came to her door. Countless others also called her 'Mom', a testament to the impact she had on so many.

She is survived by her husband, Donald J. Reilly, Milton; her first husband, Carl E. Prinzing, Frenchtown, MT; son - Jason Prinzing, Missoula, MT;  daughter and son-in-law, Lisette & Ben Heckathorn, Delevan, NY; Brother, Jaime L. Cuevas, Stamford, CT; Sister, Aracelis Gianella, Hawthorne, NJ; stepson, Thomas Gasparro, Milton; stepdaughter Suzanne & her husband Ron Werbeck, Saugerties; stepdaughter, Dana Reilly, Tivoli; stepdaughter, Kimberly Massaro, Kingston; grandchildren, Brady, Evan, Gabrielle, Alexander, Joe, Brian, Lauren, Victoria, Matthew; great-grandchildren, Madilynn & Cameron.

She was predeceased by her father in 1993 and mother in 2011.

Relatives and friends may call from 4:00 pm to 6:30 pm on Thursday, March 14, 2019, at Sweet’s Funeral Home, Inc., Route 9, Hyde Park. Funeral services will begin at 6:30pm with the Rev.
